Frequently Asked Questions
Q :: When I started RTP for the first time I was asked to enter an authorization key. Where can I obtain one from?
The authorization key is required the first time the program is run. This key will be emailed within 24 hours of downloading the package and must be entered exactly as seen. The program will also require your Name and Company.
If the program does not have write permission to the install directory, an error will occur "Error writing to .ctl File". To fix this, change permissions on the directory. You may have to contact your System Administrator for this.
Q :: How do I import Microsoft Project plans into AMS REALTIME Projects for Linux?
AMS REALTIME Projects can import Microsoft Project plans if they have been saved in .mpx format. Here's how to do it:
1. Save your MS Project schedules out in .mpx format.
2. Copy the .mpx file(s) to your Linux machine.
3. In AMS REALTIME Projects, click on the File menu and choose Open.
4. In the resulting dialog, type *.mpx into the open field and click OK. You should get a list of any .mpx files in the directory.
5. Click to select the .mpx file you wish to import and click OK. This will open the .mpx file directly into AMS REALTIME Projects. You should see your MS Project schedule data in the Gantt chart. You are now free to edit this file and it can be saved as an AMS REALTIME Projects native .arp file.
Q :: How do I customize Key Bindings?
Key Bindings are specified in the RTP.RSC file in the program directory. This can be opened in a standard text editor and Key Bindings can be altered in the MENUTIEM specifications. Make a backup of the original RTP.RSC file before attempting changes. Restart the program to see the changes take affect.
Each letter and number on the keyboard can only be used once within any mode of AMS REALTIME Projects. If you map Ctrl+Q to Exit the program in Schedule Mode, you can not use Ctrl+Q anywhere else in Schedule Mode. You can also map function keys F1 - F10 (not F11 & F12 at this time) to any valid function accessible in a menu. Also Del, PgUp, PgDn, End, Ins and most other unadorned keys can be mapped.
Q :: How do I register a demo version?
If you have purchased a license for AMS REALTIME Projects you can enter your permanent authorization key by doing the following.
1. Click on Help Menu and choose the About AMS REALTIME Projects option.
2. When you see a dialog box that states you are using a registered of demonstration version of the software, click the OK button.

5. In the final dialog box, enter your organization and click OK.
6. You have now permanently registered you copy of AMS REALTIME Projects.
Q :: When I start RTP I receive a 'Segmentation Fault'
This generally indicates that your particular distribution of Linux is not compatible with the program binaries. You will need to check your Kernel version and other dependencies. If you have earlier or later versions of these files, you will need to change the libraries to match the supported list.
